from her. After that gradually the members of her family did not want to take any responsibility.
She came to Dhaka and took up a job in a garments factory.
However, Rabiya was fired from her job due to her age. Then she decided to go abroad as she
was not able to get a good job locally. After that, she talked to a sub agent in Narayanganj. He
offered to send her to Saudi Arabia on a payment of BDT 30,000 and she was told that she would
be sent abroad on a medical work visa and would be paid 1,200 Riyals i.e. BDT 25,000 per month.
She agreed to the proposal of the sub agent. Then on October 18, 2016, Rabiya went to Saudi
Arabia. But when she went there, she was given a job on a Khaddama visa, that is, she was given
work from the office and was paid 600 Riyals, which is BDT 12,000. She called the sub agent
repeatedly but he did not answer the phone. Then she was forced to work for low wages.
Rabiya worked for little wages and sent the salary to pay for her children’s education. At the end
of 2017, Rabiya’s salary increased and she started saving money. Around 2020, she paid her exhusband BDT 10,00,000 to to transfer her house and land in the name of Rabiya. Rabiya’s
husband cheated her and took away all the money that she had earned through hard work
without registering the land and house in her name. He also took away her children. Later, she
fell ill in Saudi Arabia and recovered somehow through treatment and started working but her
employer was not satisfied with her work and did not pay her 6 months’ salary.
Finally, Rabiya was sent to Bangladesh on 05 August 2021 without paying any of her dues. She
came to Bangladesh in a destitute and helpless condition. She was stuck at Hazrat Shahjalal
International Airport as she had no means of communication with anyone. Then she sought the
help of Probashi Kalyan Desk. After that, the matter was referred to an organization in Bangladesh
from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport’s Probashi Kalyan Desk and requested to find her
family and handed her over to her family after providing proper food accommodation and
medical treatment if necessary. She still dreams of going abroad and earning a lot of money to
have a roof over her head and some land under her feet, where she can spend her life happily
with her children. Through the goat given to her, by the civil society she is now able to earn some
