After arriving in Saudi Arabia she faced torture from her employer and was unable to take the
extra workload. Her employer did not give food and drinks and stopped paying salary after three
months. After working for some time Selina fell ill. After that, the torture increased, the employer
did not allow her to contact the home, and he did not allow her to inquire about the children. At
one point, the employer started torturing Nasida when she did not want to work. Selina was
forced to work without food.. Nasida lost her mental balance due to the pressure of work, torture
and head injury. After that she can’t remember anything else.
Then on 20/05/2021 the employer sent Nasida to Bangladesh without any salary and allowance.
After that, the officer of Probashi Kalyan desk called an organization and explained the details.
The organization’s representative brought Nasida from the airport to the their migration support
center. She was intensively counseled and tried to find out about her family, but Nasida was so
mentally unstable that she couldn’t remember anything about her past. The next day, she was
taken to the hospital and brought to the support center, where her family was traced through
the medium of internet. After contacting her family, her son rushed to the Support Center to take
custody of his mother. She was then handed over to her son, who procured medicines from the
organization and arranged for her transportation.
Migrant worker seeks action against recruitment agency
Laxmi is an unmarried woman who found it difficult to support her family from what she earned
as an agricultural worker in Syangja district. She was working, but her wages were not enough to
make both ends meet. She was just 23 and completed 10th standard from her village school.
Then, out of sheer desperation, she found a recruiter who promised to find her a job in Romania
as general workers with good remuneration. Women are still facing challenges to migrate for
work from their village, so she had to travel to Kathmandu in preparation for travel abroad. She
started a process with Diamond Star Overseas Pvt. Ltd for work abroad and paid a huge amount
of money in the name of foreign employment. As reported by her, she paid NPR 100,000 for work
permit, 300,000 for Visa and 50,000 for labor permit to the Manpower agency. She had submitted
her passport to the manpower agency about 2 years ago. The recruitment agency has been
withholding her personal documents for longtime and did not give any certainty about flying to
Romania.
After a few months, she was able to contact a person who belonged to another recruitment
agency called Times Management. After consulting with the representatives, she again paid NPR
225,000 cash with the hope of flying to Romania. The second recruitment agency made
arrangements of tickets and documents and she flew to Romania via Turkey on 15th June 2022
from Kathmandu Airport. The travel was good until she reached Turkey. When she reached
Romania, she was arrested and was told that she was not allowed to enter Romania as her work
permit had already been canceled. She was detained by the immigration authorities for half a
day, the authorities sent her back to Nepal via Turkish airlines. Her passport was withheld by
