HYDERABAD: Gulf workers from Telangana have demanded the Centre to withdraw the circulars allowing employers in the
Gulf countries to give reduced wages to Indian workers there.
TRS MLC Kavitha Kalvakuntla held a meeting with Gulf workers associations and discussed the matter with them. The new
minimum wages have been reduced by 30%- 50% for Indian workers.
Kavitha said while the Philippines government had laws which ensured that their workers were taken care of well and
protected in the Gulf, the Indian government had taken a decision which was adversely affecting Indian workers.
The JAC leaders also met TRS MPs — Nama Nageswara Rao and K Keshava Rao. When employers recruit new workers with
lower wages, those who have already been working there will be thrown out of employment, they pointed out.
Migrant Rights and Welfare Forum president Narasimha Naidu, migrants rights activist Mandha Bheem Reddy, Telugu
Telangana Sangham president Muralidhar Reddy and Gulf JAC member Ramesh Emula urged the leaders to take up the cause
of Gulf workers.
Another group of Gulf workers under the banner of Gulf Workers’ Awareness Centre (GWAC) met Karimnagar MP and BJP state
president Bandi Sanjay and explained to him the circulars of the Centre which would adversely affect Indian workers in the
Gulf. Vice-president of the association Vamsi Goud Ratnagiri and others met Bandi Sanjay, who reportedly assured them that
he would write a letter to the Centre on the issue asking that the circulars be withdrawn.
